Winter challenges skin more than other seasons. Snowy weather, cold temperatures and heated rooms make your skin need extra attention and care. First of all, skin needs moisturizing, because its biggest problem during winter months is dryness. If your skin is dry, use oil or a facial serum under a moisturizer with a thicker formula.
Avoid water as much as possible. Use a cleansing milk to wash your face. If there are flakes on your cheeks, eyelids or around your lip area, exfoliate your skin right after you have taken a shower and then apply a cream-based hydration mask.
In case of oily skin, it is better to use an oil-free moisturizer and oil-free serum. In extremely cold days, you can use slightly creamier skin-care products such as moisturizers with almond, avocado or jojoba oil. Moisturizers with these oils do not clog the pores.
Finally, if you have combination skin, use the moisturizer with thick formula on your cheeks and oil-free skin-care products on your T-zone.
As for make-up, it is advisable to use slightly richer foundations. Tinted moisturizers will not protect your skin as good as they. Use day creams with SPF protection. Powder should be applied all over the face if your skin is oily.
In case of dry and combination skin, it should be used on the T-area to set the base. Base product is better not to use if your skin is dry. Use face oil and a face cream with SPF 15.
Cracked lips are one more problem in winter. Use tinted lip balms instead of the lipstick if your lips are super-dry. Lip glosses with richer formula are welcome products in winter.
As for mascara, it has to be waterproof, because snow and rain make usual mascara run. Eye pencils and eye liners should also be water resistant, but some eye liners do not stay well because of flakiness. Apply on the top of eyeliners a make-up sealing product. Finally, blush is one of key items in winter. It gives color to skin. In winter powder formulas sit better than cream or gel blushes.
