Not only aromatherapy provides human health treatment it can improve the well-being of our pets and other animals. We are very different first of all because animals have extremely keen sense of smell so they catch the scent of essential oils even in low concentrations.
In addition, those essential oils appropriate for us can be harmful for our cats, dogs or birds. Cats especially require a lot of attention since their increased sensitivity can be incompatible with certain essential oils. Some of them, for example tea tree essential oil, may bring toxic effect exceptionally to cats, but it can be very useful for dogs helping them to get rid of mites.
Apply only one drop of tea tree, lavender or thyme oil on the pest and you’ll be able to pull it out easily.
If your dog or cat has itchy eczema, constantly suffering from wounds or sores, their skin should be treated with a mixture of essential oils, containing 5 drops of lavender and 5 drops of tea tree oil (for dogs) three times a day until complete wound healing. Incidentally the animals are less susceptible to bites of ticks and fleas.
Fleas deliver a lot of bother to the dogs. Try to add 10 drops of lavender and tea tree essential oil to the 200 g of shampoo you usually use for washing your pet and wait for some time until the essential oils do they work. You can also make an anti-flea dog-collar by oiling it every day with fragrant mixture including 1 drop of lavender and 2 drops of oregano. Don’t forget to dissolve them in 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil before the procedure.
It’s too dangerous and isn’t recommended to use essential oils internally on pets unless you act in accordance to vet’s prescriptions. But in general aromatherapy positively influences our pets, improving the immune system, helping to fight against bacteria and yeasts.
The most appropriate tool for pet aromatherapy is a kerosene lamp, as the essential oils evaporate slowly from it and in small quantities. Animals, like humans, are subject to mood swings and stresses that’s why you can always rely on well-tried and easy aromatherapy treatment.
